Manual Cam Chain Tensioner

 When you make fast changes in throttle position it can cause the cam chain to whiplash, when it does it is all to easy for the automatic cam chain tensioner to take up this momentary slack and put the cam chain under to much tension. This will result in the teeth on the cam shaft gears to be splayed by the excess tension and damage the cam chain to the point of possible failure.
