Rob Guiver and the Ace Cafe Racer continue to improve at Oulton Park

Rob Guiver finished 15th in the Motorpoint British Supersport championship at Oulton Park and 3rd in the Cup class for the Ace Cafe T3 Racing team.

Guiver made a good start to Race 2 despite starting from 22nd on the grid. He was still suffering from injuries he incurred in qualifying but managed to find some real pace in today’s race.

The Ace Cafe T3 Racing rider was picking up a position a lap, continuously getting faster, despite dropping back to 25th off the line.

By lap five he was up to 20th but stuck behind Adam Blacklock on the M8 Motorsport Yamaha. It was tense racing as the gap got closer lap-by-lap and Guiver was looking for an opportunity to take a place from him.

On lap ten it finally happened and, after a few riders dropped out of the race, Guiver was up to 17th. However, he was now 1.39 seconds behind Shaun Winfield from Oxford TAG Triumph, also on a Triumph Dayton 675, in 16th.

It was on lap 12 that Guiver put in his best lap of 1:40.609, as fast as some of the top ten, and had reduced the gap between himself and Winfield to half a second. He continued to cut the gap each lap, by lap 15 was right on his tail with a gap of only 0.03 and was soon passed Winfield.

Guiver began chasing down Bjorn Estment who was less than a tenth of a second ahead of him going into lap 16. The battle for 14th would become the difference between getting second or third in the Cup class but it was the South African rider who would cross the line ahead.

“That was probably the most difficult race of my life!” Guiver told us after the race, “I was in so much pain and because it’s my hip that I hit when I came off yesterday, just shifting my body on the bike was agony.

“I got quite a good start but it was about half way through that the adrenaline really kicked in and I found some speed.”

Team manager, Ricky Chadwick, said, “That was a really gutsy performance from Rob, some great racing. We’re getting closer to where we want to be.”
