TRIPLE PODIUM FINISH TO 2014 FOR T3 RACING
TRIPLE PODIUM FINISH TO 2014 FOR T3 RACING
21st October 2014
T3 Racing enjoyed three podiums at Brands Hatch this weekend at the MCE British Superbike Championship finale as their riders continued to show the performance and reliability of these tuned Triumph machines.
Luke Jones battled hard all weekend to take a double podium and pole position in British Supersport. Alex Olsen ended his EVO Championship winning year with a second place in Saturday’s sprint race whilst Pirelli National Superstock 600 rider, Aleix Aulestia had a mixed bag of fortune, securing a solid sixth place in Sunday’s race.
After overnight rain, the morning practice session on Friday would be run on a damp track which saw Jones finish in second place, with Olsen second fastest EVO. Once again Saturday morning saw a wet track, which didn’t help Aulestia who only completed six laps and couldn’t improve on his ninth position achieved in ‘Qualifying One’ on Saturday.
For Jones and Olsen the track conditions improved ahead of their qualifying session, which saw the EVO man qualify an impressive seventh and first EVO. Jones struggled through the session, qualifying in 11th position for Saturday’s sprint race.
A shower of rain before the Supersport race, forced the whole grid to run on wet tyres. Jones got off to a great start and ran in third for the duration of the race, putting in the fastest lap on lap eight, meaning he would be in pole position for Sunday’s race. Olsen took second place in the EVO class, after losing out on the last lap to Josh Day, taking his 20th podium of 2014!
For the second Supersport race, Jones made a great start and ran at the head of the pack with the leading four riders. After swapping places with Alistair Seeley and Glenn Irwin in a thrilling battle, Luke took the flag in third place and his seventh podium of the season cementing his creditable fifth place overall in this red hot series.
EVO Champion Alex Olsen had a difficult end to his season, after jumping the start he had to take his ride through penalty, then worked his way back through the field, taking the flag in 19th overall and 6th EVO. At the final count he ended up over 200 points in front of his nearest competitor in a class with 47 points scorers.
Aulestia made a good start to the Pirelli National 600cc Championship race, making his way up to sixth place and battled hard to retain his position, a great way to end his 2014 season.
Afterwards Luke Jones said: “It was a fast race out there, I obviously got in front a couple of times but it was a bit frustrating as I was taken back straight away. There were a few hairy moments out there when I nearly ran into people mid corner. I thought I had the pace to win but to be honest it was such a great battle to be part of. I’m obviously so thankful of the extra help I’ve had in the second half of the year and what a way to end the season, so big thanks to everyone.”
Motorpoint British Supersport EVO Champion Alex Olsen said: “I got a jump start, it was all my fault and I had to deal with it. I was in a good rhythm and felt I could have had a great race but what happened, happened. I’m glad the Championship is done now, I can relax and move onto next year.”
Aleix Aulestia: “I had a great start to the season and enjoyed racing here, unfortunately when my arm pump kicked in I lost a lot of ground and finally had to concede to an operation. Now I look forward to joining T3 again next season for a fresh start!”
